Awareness Program on Dengue Prevention
Dengue, transmitted by the bites of Aedes mosquitoes, has become a growing public health threat in Bangladesh due to its gradual increasing morbidity and mortality since 2000. Effective dengue prevention and control is an important concern today in Bangladesh as there is an ongoing challenge to ensure proper treatment and prevention options despite having continued progress in dengue research throughout the world. In 2019, Bangladesh experienced highest annual dengue incidence ever. Dhaka is the highest risk prone area for dengue transmission in Bangladesh. Awareness is the first step in prevention. People should make sure they are aware of whether there is a risk of dengue infection and be ready to protect themselves if they are travelling to a region where infection is common. Despite having moderate knowledge of dengue transmission vectors and symptoms, the preventive practices are not well executed. We conducted an awareness program through miking to make people aware of the causes, symptoms, prevention, necessary steps to take after being infected etc. in association with ADAB (Association of Development Agencies in Bangladesh). We covered the areas of Tejkunipara, Nakhalpara, Tejgaon Church, Tejgaon Rail gate, Tejturi Bazar, Karwan Bazar, Panthopath, East Raja Bazar, West Raja Bazar, Farmgate, Indira Road, Monipuripara and Bijoy Soroni of Dhaha North City Corporation under this program.
